Working With Simple Image Outputs
This guide will walk you through the new image generation feature in Assist. You will learn how to:
- Create a new image template.
- Generate images from a text prompt.
- Edit and iterate on your generated images.
- Use Workspace Knowledge to create on-brand images.
1. Creating an Image Template
Before you can generate images, you must first create an "Image Template." This tells Assist what kind of output to create.
From the main dashboard, navigate to Workspace Templates in the left-hand sidebar.
Click the + Create Template button in the top-right corner.
Fill in the Template Details:
- Template Name: Give it a clear name (e.g., "Image Gen Template").
- What does this template do?: Add a simple description (e.g., "This creates images").
Template Icon: (Optional) Click "Change icon" to select a relevant icon and color.
In the Output Type section, select the Images card (it may be marked "EXPERIMENTAL").
Scroll down to the AI Instructions section and provide simple, clear instructions:
- Welcome Message: Enter the first message the AI will send (e.g., "Give me your instructions").
- AI Instructions: Tell the AI its core task (e.g., "Create the image I asked for").
- Click the Create Template button at the bottom of the page.
2. How to Generate Your First Images
Once your template is created, you can use it within any project to start generating images.
- Navigate to the Project where you want to create images (e.g., "Image Tests").
- Click the + New Output button.
- A "Choose an output template to use" window will appear. Select the "Image Gen Template" you just created.
- Click Create.
- You will be taken to a new chat interface. In the message box at the bottom, type your image request (e.g., "give me four images of a cat").
- Press Enter. The AI will process your request and generate the images, which will appear in the "Image Gen Template Image Grid" in the main panel.
3. How to Edit and Iterate on Images
You can refine your images using follow-up prompts in the chat.
- To Edit an Image: After the first set of images is generated, type a new instruction in the chat box. You can refer to images by their number (e.g., "lets make cat #1 black and white").
- View Versions: The AI will generate a new version (V2) of that specific image. You can click the image in the grid to open a preview and toggle between the different versions (V1, V2, etc.).
- Preview: Click any image in the grid to see a larger preview.
4. Advanced: Creating On-Brand Images with Workspace Knowledge
The most powerful feature of the image generator is its ability to automatically use your Workspace Knowledge (such as brand guidelines, logos, and color palettes) to create on-brand visuals.
Step 1: Clone Your Template to a Branded Workspace
First, you need to make your generic image template available in the workspace that contains your brand information.
- Go to Workspace Templates.
Find your "Image Gen Template" and click the three-dot menu (...) on the card.
Select Clone.
In the "Clone Output Template" modal:
- Set the Destination to Workspace.
- In the dropdown menu below, select the specific workspace that has your brand knowledge loaded (e.g., "Ferrero Rocher").
- Click Create. The template will be copied to that workspace.
Step 2: Generate On-Brand Images
- Switch to your branded workspace (e.g., "Ferrero Rocher").
- Open a Project and create a + New Output, selecting the "Image Gen Template" you just cloned.
Make a request. Notice that you don't have to mention your brand.
Example Prompt:
please create a christmas scene with the words merry christmas- The AI will automatically access the Workspace Knowledge for that workspace and generate images that are perfectly on-brand, incorporating your brand's specific colors, style, and product identity.
