Deep Dive Tool Error — What It Means & How to Fix It

What Is the Deep Dive Tool?

The Deep Dive tool is a feature within Assist that allows you to analyse uploaded files and knowledge in greater detail. It processes your content to extract deeper insights, summaries, and actionable information beyond a standard response.

What Does the Deep Dive Error Mean?

Sometimes when using the Deep Dive tool, you may see an error message indicating that the tool was unable to process your request. This means Assist attempted to analyse your content in detail but encountered an issue that prevented it from completing the task.

Why Does This Error Happen?

The Deep Dive error can occur for a number of reasons, including:

  • Unsupported file type — The file you uploaded may not be in a format the Deep Dive tool can process (e.g., certain image formats, corrupted files, or uncommon file types).
  • File is too large — The uploaded file exceeds the size limit supported by the tool.
  • File is empty or unreadable — The document may appear valid but contains no extractable text or data (e.g., a scanned PDF without OCR).
  • Content is too complex or lengthy — In some cases, extremely large or complex documents may cause the tool to time out.
  • Temporary system issue — Occasionally, a short-lived server or processing issue may cause the error.

How to Fix It

If you encounter the Deep Dive error, try the following steps:

1. Check Your File Format

Make sure your file is in a commonly supported format such as:

  • PDF
  • DOCX
  • TXT
  • CSV

If your file is in an unsupported format, try converting it to one of the above before re-uploading.

2. Reduce File Size

If your file is very large, try:

  • Splitting it into smaller sections
  • Compressing the file
  • Removing unnecessary pages or data

3. Re-upload the File

Sometimes the issue is with the upload itself. Try removing the file and uploading it again.

4. Try Again Shortly

If the error seems intermittent, wait a moment and try running the Deep Dive again. Temporary issues usually resolve quickly.

5. Check File Content

Ensure the file actually contains readable text. Scanned documents or image-based PDFs may not have extractable content unless they have been processed with OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

Still Seeing the Error?

If you've tried all of the above and the error persists, it may be a known limitation or a bug. Reach out to your workspace admin or the Assist support team for further help — include the file type, file size, and a screenshot of the error if possible.
