How to Upload Files Using Drag and Drop in Assist
Upload files directly into your Assist chat by dragging and dropping them from your desktop or folder. It's fast, simple, and works with any file type.
Overview
Assist allows you to upload files — images, documents, spreadsheets, and more — straight into a chat conversation using drag and drop. Once uploaded, you can ask Assist to summarise, analyse, or use the file however you need.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open a Chat in Assist
Start by navigating to your workspace and opening a chat. This can be:
- A new conversation — Click the + New Output button in the top-right corner of your project, choose a template (e.g. Custom Document), and click Create.
- An existing conversation — Select any previous output from your sidebar under Recent Outputs.
Once open, you'll see the chat panel on the left with a text input field at the bottom.
Step 2: Find Your File(s)
Locate the file(s) you want to upload on your computer:
- Open your desktop, a folder, or your file explorer/finder.
- You can select one file or multiple files at once (hold
Ctrlon Windows orCmdon Mac to select multiple).
Step 3: Drag and Drop into the Chat
- Click and hold your selected file(s).
- Drag them over to the Assist chat window.
- Hover over the text input field at the bottom of the chat — you'll see a green circle with a plus (+) icon appear, confirming the drop zone is active.
- Release the mouse button to drop the files.
Your file(s) will appear as thumbnails inside the text input box, ready to be sent.
Step 4: Use Your Uploaded Files
Once your files are uploaded, you can type a message alongside them to tell Assist what you need. For example:
- "Summarise this document for me"
- "What's shown in these images?"
- "Use these files to create a report"
Assist picks up the files right away and is ready to help.
