Setting Expected Completion Time in Workspace Templates
The Expected Completion Time (Hours) field allows you to track how long a task would traditionally take to complete without AI assistance. This helps you measure the time savings Assist provides compared to traditional methods.
What is Expected Completion Time?
Expected Completion Time is the estimated number of hours a task would take using traditional methods (without Assist). For example:
- A report that normally takes 3 hours → Enter 3
- A presentation that typically takes 5 hours → Enter 5
- A data analysis that usually takes 8 hours → Enter 8
This baseline helps you track and demonstrate the efficiency gains from using Assist.
How to Set Expected Completion Time
Step 1: Navigate to Workspace Templates
From your Assist dashboard, click on Workspace Templates in the left navigation sidebar.
The templates area will load.

Step 2: Create or Edit a Template
Click the Create Template button (or + Create Your First Template if you don't have any templates yet). To update an existing template, open it and click Edit Template.
The template editor will open.

Step 3: Enter Expected Completion Time
In the Template Details section of the editor, locate the Expected Completion Time (Hours) field.
- Click into the field
- Enter the number of hours this work would traditionally take
- Example: If a report normally takes 3 hours, type 3
- Use whole numbers or decimals (e.g., 2.5 for two and a half hours)

Step 4: Save Your Template
Review your entry to ensure accuracy.
- If you're editing an existing template, click Update Template to save your changes
- If you're creating a new template, click the create/save button at the bottom of the editor
Your expected completion time is now set!
Why Track Expected Completion Time?
Tracking expected completion time helps you:
- Measure time savings: Compare traditional methods vs. Assist-powered workflows
- Demonstrate ROI: Show stakeholders the efficiency gains from using Assist
- Optimize workflows: Identify which tasks benefit most from AI assistance
- Track productivity: Monitor how much time your team saves over time
Tips for Accurate Estimates
- Be realistic: Base your estimate on actual traditional completion times, not ideal scenarios
- Consider the full process: Include research, drafting, editing, and review time
- Use team averages: If multiple people do this task, use an average completion time
- Update as needed: Adjust estimates if you discover they're inaccurate
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I don't know the exact traditional completion time?
A: Make your best estimate based on similar tasks or industry standards. You can always update it later by editing the template.
Q: Can I use decimal numbers?
A: Yes! You can enter values like 2.5 for two and a half hours.
Q: Does this affect how Assist processes my work?
A: No, this is purely a reference value. It doesn't change how Assist completes tasks.
Q: Where can I see the time saved?
A: The Expected Completion Time you set on each template serves as the baseline for measuring time saved each time the template is used.
