How to Create Charts with Assist 2.0

Create Charts with Assist 2.0

Overview

Assist 2.0 lets you turn spreadsheet data into beautiful, fully customisable charts just by asking. Upload your data in chat, describe what you want, and Assist will generate a chart automatically. From there, you can change the chart type, adjust colours, add branding, resize for any platform, edit data in real time, and export your finished chart.

This guide walks you through the entire process from start to finish.

What You'll Need

  • An active Assist 2.0 account at app.assistco.ai
  • A spreadsheet file (.xlsx, .csv, or similar) containing the data you want to visualise

Step 1: Start a New Chat

From the left-hand sidebar, click New Chat.

You'll be taken into the chat interface, ready to talk to Assist.

Step 2: Upload Your Data

In the chat input area, click the + icon.

Select Upload a File from the pop-up menu.

Browse your device and select your spreadsheet file (e.g., widget_sales_2024.xlsx  ).

Wait for the file to process. It will appear as an attachment in the chat, ready for Assist to use.

Tip: Make sure your spreadsheet is well-structured with clear column headers. This helps Assist generate a more accurate chart on the first attempt.

Step 3: Ask Assist to Plot Your Data

With your file attached, just describe what you want.

Using a Basic Prompt

Type Plot this and hit send.

Assist will analyse your data and generate an appropriate chart for you. It will also call out Key Highlights from your data in the chat — top performers, trends, or notable data points.

Using a Specific Prompt

For more control, be more specific. For example:

  • "Plot quarterly sales by region" — generates a chart that aggregates sales by region across each quarter.
  • "Show me a stacked bar chart of revenue by product line" — gets you a specific chart type from the off.

Tip: You can keep refining in the same chat. Each new prompt will update the chart based on your instructions.

Step 4: Customise Your Chart

Once your chart is generated, you can customise it — either by asking Assist in chat ("make it a donut chart", "use our brand colours", "resize for LinkedIn") or by using the customisation controls on the chart itself.

4.1 — Change Chart Type

Available chart types:

Chart Type

Description

Column

Vertical bars — great for comparing categories side by side

Bar

Horizontal bars — useful when category labels are long

Line

Connects data points with lines — ideal for trends over time

Combo

Combines column and line charts in one view

Pie

Circular chart showing proportions of a whole

Donut

Similar to pie, with a hollow centre for a cleaner look

Bar Position options (for Column and Bar charts):

Option

Description

Grouped

Bars displayed side by side for direct comparison

Stacked

Bars layered on top of each other to show totals

100% Stacked

Bars stacked to show percentage contribution to the whole

Style toggles:

  • Sort high → low: Reorders the data from highest to lowest values.
  • Data Labels: Toggle on/off to show or hide specific values directly on the chart.

4.2 — Resize for Any Platform

Choose from the following presets:

Preset

Aspect Ratio

Best For

Google Slides / PowerPoint

16:9

Presentations

LinkedIn Post

1.91:1

LinkedIn feed posts

Instagram Post

1:1

Square Instagram feed posts

TikTok / Instagram Story

9:16

Vertical story/reel format

X (Twitter)

16:9

X feed posts

Mobile

9:16

Mobile-optimised viewing

You can also enter custom pixel dimensions if none of the presets fit.

4.3 — Customise Colours

You have several options:

Theme: Toggle between Light and Dark to change the chart's background and overall appearance.

Preset Palettes: Choose from ready-made colour schemes such as Colorful, Pastel, Neon, Blue, Green, Yellow, and more.

Brand Palette: Create or select a custom brand palette using your own hex codes. Saved palettes appear under Team palettes and can be reused across any chart in the workspace.

Freestyle Palette: Create a one-off custom palette without saving it as a brand preset.

Note: Brand palettes are workspace-specific. Any palette you create will be available to all members of your workspace, but will not carry over to other workspaces.

Tip: The Dark theme creates a visually striking chart that works especially well for presentations and social media posts.

4.4 — Add Branding & Text Elements

Element

Description

Logo

Upload your company logo — it will appear directly on the chart

Title

Add a main heading to your chart

Subtitle

Add a secondary heading beneath the title

Caption

Add a descriptive caption

Source

Credit your data source

You can also adjust Text Size and Font for these elements.

Tip: Adding a logo and title transforms a basic chart into a polished, presentation-ready visual that's on-brand and professional.

Step 5: Edit Data Directly

Need to make a quick change without re-uploading the file? You can edit the data directly.

Open the data editor, click into any cell, and change its value. The chart updates instantly to reflect your changes.

For example: changing Grace O'Brien's Q1 sales from 251 to 134 updates the chart immediately.

Step 6: Export Your Chart

When you're happy with your chart, you have two export options:

Option

What It Does

Download PNG

Saves your chart as a high-quality image file, ready to use in presentations, documents, or social media.

Download CSV

Exports the underlying chart data as a spreadsheet file, useful for further analysis or record-keeping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What file types can I upload?

Assist supports common spreadsheet formats including .xlsx and .csv.

Can I change the chart after it's been generated?

Yes. Ask Assist in chat ("make it a line chart instead") or switch chart type directly. You can also send a new, more specific prompt to regenerate the chart entirely.

Can I use my own brand colours?

Absolutely. Create a custom brand palette with your own hex codes. Once saved, it's available as a Team palette for reuse across your workspace. Note that brand palettes are workspace-specific.

Does editing the data affect my original file?

No. Edits only affect the chart within Assist. Your original uploaded file remains unchanged.

What size should I use for presentations?

Select the Google Slides / PowerPoint preset (16:9) for the best fit.

Can I export just the data without the chart?

Yes. Click Download CSV to export only the data as a spreadsheet file.

Can I generate multiple different charts from the same data?

Yes. Just ask in chat (e.g., "now plot quarterly sales by region") and Assist will generate a new chart based on your instructions.

Summary

Charting in Assist 2.0 is as simple as uploading your spreadsheet and asking. Assist generates a chart from a plain-English prompt, then you can refine the type, colours, branding, size, and data — either by asking or by tweaking it directly. When you're done, export as PNG or CSV and you're ready to go.
