🤖 Execute Mode (and Plan Mode)

What is Execute Mode?

Execute Mode is the default way of working with Assist 2.0. It lets you describe what you want in natural language and have the assistant act on it immediately — planning, creating, and producing outputs autonomously through the Just Start Talking (JST) chat interface.

It's the evolution of what used to be called Agent Mode, now built into the core Assist 2.0 experience and paired with a new Plan Mode for when you want more control.

What does it do?

  • Runs on our most advanced AI model for faster, sharper responses
  • Handles multi-step tasks with less prompting from you — it can spin up projects, templates, and agents on its own
  • Pulls together knowledge, templates, and agents already in your workspace before creating anything new
  • Generates outputs in multiple formats (HTML, PowerPoint, Excel) in parallel where useful
  • Works across your connected data sources and brings results together in one place

Execute Mode vs Plan Mode

You'll see a toggle between Execute Mode and Plan Mode in the chat:

  • Execute Mode â€” the assistant gets on with the task immediately. Best for straightforward requests or when you trust it to make sensible choices.
  • Plan Mode â€” the assistant proposes a plan first and waits for you to approve or revise it before doing anything. Best for bigger or more sensitive tasks where you want to sense-check the approach.

Plan Mode won't auto-enter on launch — you choose it when you want it.

Why is it useful?

Execute Mode reduces manual effort. Instead of walking the assistant through every step, you can describe the outcome you want and let it handle the process — finding the right templates and agents, reusing existing knowledge, and producing the deliverable.

Plan Mode gives you a safety net for the moments when you'd rather see the approach before anything happens.

Do I need to set anything up?

No. Execute Mode is the default. Just open JST and start talking. Switch to Plan Mode from the toggle whenever you want to review before executing.

Who can use it?

All users have access to Execute Mode and Plan Mode as part of Assist 2.0.
