How to Recover Your Work When Your Chat Session Crashes

Overview

If your chat session in Assist 2.0 has crashed or become too long to use effectively, don't worry — your work isn't lost. This guide shows you how to recover your work and continue your project in just a few simple steps.

Why Chat Sessions Crash

Chat sessions can become unresponsive when they grow too long with extensive conversations and content. When this happens, you may find it difficult to continue working in the same thread.

Solution: Start a New Chat in the Same Project

Follow these steps to recover all your work with zero data loss:

Step 1: Start a New Chat

  • Open Assist 2.0 and make sure you're in the correct workspace
  • Start a new chat from the main chat interface

Step 2: Point the Chat at the Right Project

  • In the chat input, use the project dropdown to select the project that contains your previous work
  • This is important — if you don't set the project, the AI will guess which project you mean, which can lead to it pulling in the wrong context
  • If you also need to bring in a specific template or agent, type @ in the chat input and select it from the list

Step 3: Continue Working

Once the chat is scoped to the correct project, just tell the agent what you'd like to do next — for example, "carry on from where we left off" or "continue editing the document I was working on." The agent has access to the project's outputs and context, so your previous work is preserved and ready to pick up.

Benefits

Zero Data Loss — All your previous work is fully preserved

Quick Recovery — Get back to work in under a minute

Seamless Continuation — Pick up exactly where you left off

Better Performance — A fresh chat session runs smoothly

Best Practices

  • Always set the project in the dropdown before sending your first message — don't rely on the AI guessing
  • If you notice your chat becoming slow, consider starting a new chat proactively
  • Use descriptive names for your outputs so it's easy to tell the agent which one to continue from
  • Use @ to bring in specific templates or agents you were using in the previous session
