What is your Private space in Assist?

Your Private space is your personal sandbox in Assist — the first home for every agent and output template you create, visible only to you until you choose to share it.

What you'll learn

  • What your Private space is and why it exists
  • What kinds of items live there by default
  • Why everything you create starts private — and why that's a good thing
  • How to find your private agents and output templates in the Library
  • How to Promote an item to your workspace or organisation when you're ready to share it

What is Private space?

Your Private space is your own personal area within Assist. It's separate from your workspace and your organisation's shared library.

Whenever you create a new agent or output template, it lands in your Private space first. That's by design — not a bug, not a limitation. Creation always starts private.

Nothing in your Private space is visible to anyone else. Not your teammates, not workspace members, not org admins. It belongs entirely to you until you decide otherwise.

What lives in your Private space

Your Private space holds:

  • Agents you create
  • Output templates you create
  • Any private knowledge items you've added for your own use

One thing to note: skills are admin-gated and managed separately — they don't follow the same private/workspace/org flow.

Everything in your Private space is yours alone. No one else can see it, search for it, or @ -mention it. Until you promote an item, it simply doesn't exist for anyone else in Assist.

Why Private first?

Starting in Private space gives you room to experiment.

You can build an agent, test it on a few real tasks, tweak its instructions, and try again — without cluttering the workspace library for your teammates. No one else will stumble across a half-finished template. No one will start relying on something you haven't finished yet.

Think of it as a personal drafting area. When something is ready, you move it up. Until then, it stays yours.

How to find your Private items

  1. Open the Library from the sidebar or navigation menu.
  2. Look for the Private tier or filter — this shows only items that belong to you personally.
  3. You'll see all the agents and output templates you've created that haven't been promoted yet.

If you've just created something and can't find it in the workspace library, check here first. It's almost certainly sitting in your Private space waiting for you.

Promoting an item to your workspace or organisation

When you're happy with an agent or template and want others to be able to use it, you Promote it. Here's how:

  1. Open the Library.
  2. Find the private agent or output template you want to share.
  3. Select the Promote option on that item (usually accessible via a menu or item settings).
  4. Choose your destination tier:
    • Workspace — the item becomes visible to everyone in your current workspace only.
    • Organisation — the item becomes visible across your entire organisation.
  5. Confirm your choice.

That's it. The item now appears at the tier you selected and is available for others to find and use — including @ -mentioning it in chat.

One important note: once promoted, the item is governed by that tier's permissions, not just yours. Workspace admins can manage workspace-level items; org admins can manage org-level items.

Worked example

Say you want to build a Brand Tone Checker agent — something that reviews drafts and flags anything that doesn't match your company's voice.

You create the agent in Assist. It lands in your Private space automatically.

Over the next few days, you test it on a handful of real drafts. You notice it's a bit too strict on informal copy, so you update its instructions. You test again. Now it feels right.

At that point, you open the Library, find your Brand Tone Checker in your Private items, and promote it to your Workspace.

Now your teammates can see it in the library and @ -mention it in their own chats — @BrandToneChecker  — without you having to send them anything or explain how it works.

The whole process happened quietly in your Private space. Your team only saw the finished version.

Tips & common pitfalls

New agents and templates can't be @ -mentioned by anyone else until promoted.

If a teammate tries to @ -mention an agent you just built and it doesn't appear for them, it's still in your Private space. Promote it first, then they'll be able to find it.

There's no pressure to promote.

You can keep iterating on a Private item for as long as you like. Private space isn't a waiting room — it's a permanent home for anything you want to keep to yourself.

Promotion is one-way through Assist chat.

You can promote an item from Private → Workspace or Private → Organisation, but tier downgrades aren't available through the chat interface. If you need to manage an item's tier after promotion, use the Library.

"My teammate can't see the agent I made" — check Private space first.

This is the most common cause. If you created it and haven't promoted it, it's private. Full stop.

Promoting to Organisation makes it visible everywhere — use it deliberately.

Workspace promotion is great for team-specific tools. Organisation promotion is for assets that genuinely benefit everyone across the org. When in doubt, start with Workspace and promote further if needed.
